Hotel details
A historic yet cool hotel with a ‘centralissima’ prime position between the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio overlooking the Piazza della Repubblica.
This is prime retail territory; high street fashion boutiques fan out to the east and San Lorenzo market lies just to the north.
The Savoy is a collaboration between Olga Polizzi and Laudemia Pucci, daughter of the legendary designer Emilio Pucci. Pucci’s influence is immediately apparent in the lobby where fabrics in bright colours contrast against cool, white paintwork and a marble floor. The hotel has a more classic feel which Polizzi has created with the use of gorgeous Italian fabrics, locally crafted cabinets and custom-made soft furnishings. The excellent service is traditional with a modern twist, a bit like the hotel itself and there is an impressive basement gym, surely the best hotel gym in the city centre.
There are 80 bedrooms – many with sitting rooms and panoramic outlooks. Connecting rooms and the larger suites are ideal for families. The rooms are chic yet homely with a soothing feel of soft greys, greens and blues. Floors are bleached oak, walls are covered in pretty papers and the gorgeous fabrics on cushions and bedheads are all made in Italy. As much as possible was commissioned from local artisans. Marble bathrooms are stocked with the in-house Forte Organics toiletries, thick robes and slippers.
Relaxed, bistro-style Irene, with its piazza-facing terrace, is a superb spot for cocktails, lunch and dinner; breakfast is also served here and Executive chef Fulvio Pierangelini, a legend in Italian culinary circles, creates fresh, seasonal dishes that you really want to eat.
