Hotel details
When St. Petersburg’s Hotel Astoria opened its doors in 1912, it was considered one of the most posh and innovative hotels in the city, thanks to then-state-of-the-art features such as central heating and in-room hot and cold water.
Today, under the management of hotelier Sir Rocco Forte, it continues to offer its guests a mix of palatial elegance and contemporary convenience. The still-authentic interiors — decorated with antiques — have been updated in the highest style while preserving the hotel’s original character.
An elevator in its original wrought-iron cage goes up to the rooms, all of which are done in soothing tones with stylish comfortable furniture, natural linen curtains and bedspreads, genuine parquet flooring. Suites are decorated with porcelain vases, marble and bronze statues and original paintings adding to the atmosphere. All rooms feature marble bathrooms and the latest amenities, and many have views over St. Isaac’s Square.
Davidov’s restaurant features traditional Russian specialities prepared with a modern touch. There is also a tasting bar offering caviar and a wide selection of vodkas (80, to be exact).
Finally, the Astoria’s location in the centre of St. Petersburg makes it the ideal base from which to explore the city’s many attractions.
