Hotel details
Nestled in the very heart of London, a 5-minute walk from the bars and restaurants of Soho, The Mandrake is a small but perfectly formed homage to the new wave of hotel coming up in the world’s most creative city. Like the plant after which it is named the hotel has mystical healing properties, none of which are apparent until you have stepped inside this outstanding urban space which used to be two mundane office blocks but is now a rarefied urban jungle retreat.
Space is at a premium when you are as central as The Mandrake and yet the use of the space is outstandingly creative with four storeys of terraces overlooking the central courtyard. The 30 bedrooms are accessed off this central courtyard and all rooms have hammam style marble bathrooms which get bigger with every room upgrade. All rooms at The Mandrake are luxuriously intimate and feature those two crucial factors in every wonderful hotel: a great night sleep thanks to the luxurious organic mattresses and a tropical rainfall shower to start or finish your day.
A hotel as cool as this has to have an excellent restaurant and YOPO does not disappoint. It is a celebration of Chef George Scott-Toft’s educational and cultural feast through South America. Perhaps start off the experience by sharing empanadas of octopus, artichoke and olives and crudo of seabass, blood orange and mango. The restaurant serves breakfast lunch and dinner.
Explore London then return to your oasis of calm in Fitzrovia.
