Hotel details
Situated at the end of the Great Rift Valley and sitting on an ox bow of the Luangwa River, Lion Camp occupies a stunning position. The camp is built on the waters edge amongst dense woodland. This is one of the oldest camps in South Luangwa National Park and has now been completely refurbished. A two-hour drive from Mfuwe Airport but well worth it as the area is known for the elephants and lion prides that come to drink right in front of the camp. The camp is unfenced so guests must stick to the raised walkways that connect the camp.
Under the expert guidance of the Mantis Collection Lion Camp is not only a wonderful place from which to view wildlife. The 10 suites are spacious, light and fresh with an open plan bathroom and outdoor drencher style shower. The food is casually delicious and creative without being overdone.
Sustainability and conservation are at the heart of everything Lion Camp does – in keeping with the Mantis Collection philosophy. Since the rebuild of the camp the focus has been 100% on the environment in addition to being able to help train some of the local community who worked on the rebuild as well as investing in equipment and technology to help local schoolchildren.
All of this means that Lion Camp is indeed a part of the local community and the environment. In an age of trying to tread lightly on our precious planet this has never been more important.
